The SeaOwl VizIR maritime surveillance system selected for the Shell Prelude FLNG off the coast of Australia
Alcatel-Lucent, who is providing the telecommunications package along with the Technip Samsung Consortium (TSC) for Shell's new Prelude "floating liquefied natural gas" (FLNG) facility, has selected the SeaOwl VizIR solution to manage the maritime security bubble around the FLNG platform.
Prelude is the first in a series of FLNG facilities and at 600,000 tonnes will be the largest floating structure ever built.
The SeaOwl VizIR solution detects marine presence in the vicinity of the FLNG platform within a radius of several miles, defines them and ensures identification of potential threats by means of a combination of panoramic thermal IR cameras (HGH Vigiscan) and PTZ thermal IR and visible spectrum cameras (Synectics). SeaOwl VizIR's algorithmic intelligence enables alerts to be prioritised by constantly crosschecking its information with that coming from on-board equipment (Radar, AIS...). Delivery of the Sea Owl Vizir solution is scheduled for 2013.
Alcatel-Lucent has been selected by the Technip-Samsung consortium to form part of the telecommunications package for Shell's new Prelude gas platform, the world's first floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility that will be docked 200 kilometres off the coast of Australia. This package covers several subsystems, all radio and wired communication resources and the security of the FLNG. These systems will strengthen safety and operational efficiency, provide the vessel's communications services (essential liaisons with other ships, aircraft and land-based facilities for operational support and emergency assistance) and those of crew stationed on the platform.
